Christ Church Values

In February and March 2010 we had a sermon series on the values which lie at the heart of Christ Church Newcastle.  These are the values we want to mark us out as a church.  The six topics for the talks were:

  • Bible (Gospel or Jesus) Centred

It is vitally important that the Bible drives everything we do at Christ Church, first and foremost because the Bible gives us Jesus.  We are committed to the intelligent study and application of God’s Word as a congregation, as we seek to live under the Lordship of Christ in every area of our lives, both individually and together.

  • Evangelism

We are committed to telling others about the Lord Jesus.  This is what our Lord Jesus calls us to do and is our first priority as Christ’s church.  We also believe that the best way to do this is not just as individuals, but as community.  We want people to experience church as a network of relationships rather than a meeting you attend or a place you enter.

  • Social Involvement

As we seek to apply the Bible to every area of life, we encourage our members to actively engage with broader ethical and social issues and to care seriously and practically for their neighbour.  Social Involvement is not evangelism!  But it cannot be separated from evangelism. We want to love people around us in every practical way, and then love them enough to speak the gospel to them.

  • Church Planting

Our ambition is not to grow big but, in partnership with others, multiply congregations across our city and region, hence our recently planted congregation in Fenham. Church is a very simple thing!  All we need is a Bible, a teacher, and some people. Therefore it is easy to replicate. Since we desire the gospel to go out everywhere, our aim is to plant churches in new places.

  • World Mission

We believe that Yahweh, the God of Israel, is the God of the whole world.  Therefore the rescue which God offers is for all nations.  It is our responsibility, as Christ's Church, to take the gospel to the nations, and we are keen to partner with like-minded friends around the world.  We regularly pray and give to others involved in gospel work in a variety of countries.

  • Caring for each other

The gospel word brings us into the community of God's people - real people, in a real place, facing and experiencing real issues.  Therefore we take friendship seriously.  So at all our meetings there is plenty of time to chat.  But church goes way beyond meetings as we aim to walk with each other throughout the week.
